Like most things, black tapware will scratch if you try hard enough, however if you don’t abuse your tapware and follow simple care instructions, the black finish on your products can last for a lifetime and look as good as the first day you purchased it.

Black tapware tends to look better over the years as the electroplated coating resists soap scum and mould better than the chrome counter-party.

Unlike chrome, the matte black finish reduces the reflective elements such as lighting, so things like fingerprints are actually less noticeable.

Powder-coated products may scratch easier than electroplated products. This is why Meir’s range of premium Matte Black tapware has been designed, engineered and manufactured using a fortified electroplated finish. Our dedication to providing industry leading, high quality products gives you the confidence our Matte Black tapware will withstand the rigours of everyday use.

Care instructions:
Do not use any harsh chemicals or rough surface materials such as scourers. Use a soft / microfiber cloth with warm soapy water to clean your matte black products. More detailed information on cleaining your tapware can be found on our Product Care page.

Cleaning

Do not use any harsh chemicals or rough surface materials such as scourers or adhesive tape. A soft cloth with warm soapy water will keep the matte finish in good condition and will ensure your warranty is maintained. For detailed instructions please view our Product Care page.

Installation

We strongly suggest that a licensed tradesman installs all plumbing items. If an item is installed by a non-licensed person, your product warranty and possibly home & contents insurance may be void. If there are any damages caused during installation, a licensed plumber is responsible to pay for those damages.

Product & Technical

Yes, Meir products are SABS tested and have JASWIC certificates.

Meir products are designed for water usage efficiency and conservation.

As Australia is the driest inhabited continent on earth, it’s our responsibility to ensure our water supply isn’t wasted for future generations, and lead the way for water conservation by setting an example for other countries by showing that water conservation doesn’t need to come at the cost of functionality.

As earth’s population grows, we, as a species, are on the brink of a water crisis. While 70% of the earth is covered in water, around 1% is drinkable and with such a limited supply of the most valuable resource on the planet, it is up to everyone to utilise water efficiency methods.

At Meir, we are committed to protecting the earth’s precious supply of water, and are conscious that ensure everything we do; from business operations and manufacturing, reflects our water conservation ethos. Our products are certified under the Water Efficiency Labelling and Standards (WELS) scheme, which is designed to help consumers make educated decisions based on water consumption and efficiency.

During the 2019 South African water crisis, our products provided feasible solutions to conserve water so the population could meet their daily water usage limits. We are proud to be working closely with government regulators in various countries such as United Kingdom, Malaysia, South Africa and Australia; to provide feasible solutions on a global issue.

No, all Meir 2-in-1 showers have an inbuilt diverter, so you will only need to use a single mixer or a set of taps (wall top assemblies) to control the shower.
No, all Meir tapware products require Mains pressure and are not suitable for gravity-fed water systems, low pressure systems under 100kPa or high water pressure systems exceeding 500 kPa.

Hard water is water that contains a high amount of mineral deposits. Although it’s not a health risk to drink hard water, it can leave residue and buildup of limescale in your sink and tapware.

To ensure product longevity, it is recommended to install an inline water condition filter as well as conduct regular cleaning with a soft cloth and warm soapy water. This may assist in limiting the minerals associated with hard water, which may lower the risk of limescale build up on the tapware.

Tapware finishes (including Matte Black) can deteriorate when in conditions of hard water usage when filters are not present. For more information please refer to our terms and conditions.

As we regularly design and introduce new products, our photography shoots on our black finish products can lag behind, and in these cases, we use either digital images of products photos from studios with different lighting which causes some products to look like they have a different colour than another.

Rest assured that all of our items undergo the same universal finishing process via electroplating. The plating process in nature also produces some slight variations in the finish as the vats are emptied and reused over and over again with other colours.

Seek assistance from licensed plumber or trades person as there are a number of options your plumber can implement to correct high water pressure. Meir mixer taps and other products should stay within the pressure range of 100 kPa to 500 kPa (or 1 – 10 Bar).
Electroplating is a process that uses electric current to dissolve metal to form a metal coating. Electroplating is harder wearing than powder coating, which is why Meir Australia uses the Electroplating process for all products. Although Electroplating is more durable than powder coating, it is not scratch proof and care should be taken when cleaning and handling the products – just like other tapware such as Chrome.
Powder coating is a type of coating that is applied as a dry powder. The powder coating does not require a solvent to keep the binder and filler parts in a liquid suspension form. The coating is typically applied electrostatically and is then cured under high heat temperatures. The powder may be a thermoplastic or a thermoset polymer. Powder coating is sensitive in terms of wear and tear and generally comes with a limited 1 year warranty, however if you take good care of your products, the finish will last for years to come.

Meir’s mixer tapware products are designed to withstand high pressure while still allowing low-pressure systems to function.

Mains pressure systems are required; i.e. no gravity-fed or water-tank systems are compatible.

The recommended water pressure range is:

  • Australia: 100 kPa minimum – 500 kPa maximum.
  • Other countries: 1 Bar minimum – 100 Bar maximum.

Meir tapware should not be used for pressures outside of this range as they will not function as intended and may void warranties.

If unsure, please consult your builder, plumber, architect or trade professional before making a purchase.

Meir’s kitchen sinks and certain ranges of tapware are finished in PVD, which is a high strength Physical Vapor Deposition coating.

PVD produces a thin film and coating around the product which is similar to titanium and the coating is generally harder, and more corrosion-resistant than electroplating or powder coating as it can withstand certain physical impacts and abrasions which is ideal for commercial or domestic use.

The procedure to achieve a PVD coating is a vacuum deposition method which switches material from a condensed state to a vapour state and back to a thin film condensed state.

PVD is also more environmentally friendly than traditional coating processes as there are no waste products during the process.

At Meir, we take climate change seriously and are continuously improving our manufacturing processes to reduce our environmental impact and footprint and are proud to be working with PVD products that are used around the world.

Meir sources the highest quality European components and the hoses are no exception.

Mixer taps will include PEX flexible connector hoses manufactured by the world-renowned Spanish company Tucai.

Meir products are proudly Australian designed, and the components that go into our products are sourced from leading European companies; primarily in Spain and Hungary.

We have recently moved some manufacturing off-shore but retain our local assembly line processes and employ additional staff to oversee QC at all stages.

The rattle that you can hear when the handpiece is shaken is from the internal mechanism. The noise is normal and is part of the pulsating massage function. This piece spins at high speed when in use and controls the pulsating effect when switching between functions.

It is a feature that we added to provide a more enjoyable experience for our customers.

This issue usually occurs due to a build of debris inside the shower head/filter, due to the pipes not being flushed prior to installation or a build up over time. It is recommended to have your lines flushed and to regularly check the filter that can be found inside the thread where the shower head joins the arm.

The MW08 is the universal standard set of taps that has a 6mm tolerance from the in-wall assembly to the front of the tile coverings.

The MW08JL is the latest design which comes with a 17mm tolerance from the in-wall assembly to the front of the tile coverings; this eliminates the need to purchase spindle extensions and allows the product to work in a wider-range of settings.

The MW08JL is recommended for new installs or renovations if you have thicker tiles or if your plumbing is recessed into the wall.

If you already have the MW08 and you need additional tolerance to install them, you can retro-fit by using spindle extensions.
